Overview
The project in Livorno aimed to modernize and manage over 16.000 public lighting points and traffic light systems while creating technical infrastructure to support smart city services. Key goals included cutting energy use and costs, reducing light pollution, and improving safety and aesthetics, especially in historical areas. Before the intervention, the lighting system relied mostly on outdated and inefficient high-pressure sodium lamps, with uneven illumination and non-compliant infrastructure. The entire system was upgraded to LED with point-to-point control, and traffic lights were modernized, with 100% now managed remotely. Additional smart city features—like environmental sensors, Wi-Fi hotspots, adaptive lighting, and a central management platform—were also implemented. Historic fixtures were also aesthetically restored to match the city's cultural character. These efforts led to a 70% reduction in energy use and CO₂ emissions. The project preserved historic lighting aesthetics while introducing advanced technology for better urban management.RESULTS
