Overview

In the framework of the LOCAL4GREEN PLUS project (Interreg MED 2014-20), the Municipality of Ioannina (GR) has implemented a fiscal policy to encourage the adoption of renewable energy by local companies. Through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), the municipality offers tax incentives and benefits to the employees of the companies that invest in renewable energy systems. As part of this policy, the employees of the companies receive special access to municipal services, such as discounted or free use of public transportation and bike sharing. This approach not only promotes green energy but also rewards employees with practical benefits. The policy aims to integrate sustainability into business practices while enhancing overall community well-being.

Evidence of success

The Municipality of Ioannina's initiative was well received, with three MoUs signed with local companies. Employees gained reduced fees for municipal services, ensuring strong engagement and a significant social impact.
