Street lighting upgrade in the Municipality of Epidaurus
GREECE, MUNICIPALITY OF EPIDAURUS
Greece, Pedestrian area lighting, Street lighting, LED retrofitting, Remote management, Public funding
Overview
The Municipality of Epidaurus conducted a comprehensive upgrade of its street lighting, replacing all conventional lamps with high-efficiency LED and installing a remote monitoring and management system across the entire network. The upgrade covered main roads, neighborhood streets, and pedestrian areas, replacing a total of 5,500 lighting fixtures, reducing annual energy consumption to one-third of its previous level. This energy savings, combined with the elimination of maintenance costs for 10 years, allows the municipality to repay the loan and save money for the benefit of its citizens. Prior to this upgrade, approximately half of the lighting fixtures were LED, while the remaining units were primarily low-pressure sodium lamps, along with few mercury vapor lamps. The project introduced several solutions, including pilot measurements, remote management and preventing maintenance systems, wireless pillar controllers, and targeted training of the municipal staff to ensure effective system operation.RESULTS
